The recently declared Hollywood Actors' Strike is beginning to have consequences not only for film, television and streaming productions, but also for major events in the entertainment industry. One of the victims of this stoppage is San Diego Comic-Con 2023, which began canceling panels due to the absence of unionized actors. Shows like Good Omens, That 70's Show and The Rookie have all had their panels cancelled, with more cancellations expected in the coming days.

Due to the strike, unionized actors are unable to attend events or promote their work, including interviews, podcasts, TV shows and premiere events. As a result, San Diego Comic-Con canceled much-anticipated panels such as those for new seasons of Good Omens and The Rookie, as well as a commemorative panel for That 70's Show, which would have reunited the cast of the sitcom.
Some studios are looking for alternatives to not waste the space reserved for the event. An example of this is Amazon Prime Video, which turned the panel with the actors of Good Omens into an exclusive preview of the second season.
In addition to the San Diego Comic-Con cancellations, the strike also halted filming on Deadpool 3 and the second season of The Sandman. The situation behind the scenes in Hollywood is similarly affected by the shutdown.

SAG-AFTRA, the Hollywood Actors Guild, is officially on strike, with more than 160,000 members of the organization banned from working for studios and producers until an agreement is reached. Actors are demanding better working conditions, fair pay for streaming productions and regulation of the use of artificial intelligence in new projects.
Union actors are prohibited from carrying out a range of activities during the strike, including work in front of and behind the camera, make-up and costume tests, interviews, public appearances, among others. The official SAG-AFTRA memo highlights all restrictions imposed during this period.

This first wave of San Diego Comic-Con cancellations is likely to be followed by many more in the coming days as the strike continues to affect unionized actors involved in film, television and streaming productions across the United States. The joint walkout of actors and writers represents a significant moment in the history of the entertainment industry.
The Hollywood actors strike is having significant consequences not only for film, television and streaming productions, but also for major events such as San Diego Comic-Con. The panel cancellations are just the beginning, and the strike is likely to have a lasting impact on the entertainment industry, leading to major changes in movies, series and events to come. The dispute over fair pay and working conditions reflects the transformations that have taken place in the audiovisual industry, especially with the growth of streaming services and the use of artificial intelligence.
